Overall however, diesel variants are the most commonplace. GLA200 d models are readily available, performing strongly on the road with an 8.6-second 0 to 62 mph sprint time and fuel economy of circa 50mpg. There is a more powerful GLA220 d version too, which also comes with 4MATIC all-wheel drive.
If you really want to set your pulse racing, consider the Mercedes-AMG GLA 35 and GLA 45 S versions. These produce 302bhp and 415bhp respectively, providing rapid acceleration and remarkable overtaking power.
Finally, there are increasing numbers of GLA250 e models becoming available as used cars. Able to travel up to 37 miles on electric power, the GLA250 e makes use of plug-in hybrid technology to dramatically reduce fuel consumption.
Practicality and Running Costs
Mercedes-Benz have done a very good job of making the GLA look cool on the outside but remain practical on the inside. Up front there is a sizeable glovebox, a cubby between the front seats and a storage area ahead of the trackpad.
In the rear, the seats are comfortable and there is a really good amount of head and legroom - even a six-foot adult will not struggle to fit back there.
At 481 litres in capacity, the boot is quite a bit bigger than the smaller A-Class (350 litres), and surpasses other small SUV rivals such as the Volvo XC40 (452 litres) and Audi Q2 (405 litres).
Running costs are not too bad on a GLA, with reasonable fuel economy and middle-of-the-road insurance prices. Servicing can be taken care of at any Stratstone Mercedes-Benz dealership.
Interior, Technology, and Safety
Tech features on the inside of the GLA are impressive. Twin screens are mounted on the dashboard in every model, giving you a touchscreen infotainment system as well as digital instrument gauges. Because Mercedes also integrated "MBUX", you can use voice commands to control everything from the stereo to the air conditioning.
On the whole, the cabin is what you would expect from a modern Mercedes-Benz. Premium quality materials feel pleasing to touch, while gloss black and brushed aluminium touches finish everything off nicely.
