Aston Martin Cambridge is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Spitfire’s first flight with a limited edition collection of V12 Vantage S ‘Spitfire 80’ Aston Martin models.
The Supermarine Spitfire is one of the most iconic designs in British history and engineering, and its first flight took place on March 5 1936. To mark the aircraft’s 80th anniversary, a collection of eight ‘Spitfire 80’ models are on sale exclusively at Aston Martin Cambridge.
The V12 Vantage S is given a Spitfire-themed styling by Q, Aston Martin’s personalisation service. Plus, some components for the cars are made by the Aircraft Restoration Company at Duxford to echo the iconic Spitfire design heritage. This includes tailpipe finishers with a rainbow ‘bloom’ effect to match the Spitfire’s exhaust stack. And an aluminium rear cabin finisher that matches the plane’s strut brace.
The eight new car owners will enjoy a special handover day in the Airspace Hangar at the Imperial War Museum (IWM) at Duxford, the home of the first Spitfire squadron.
And for each car sold, Aston Martin Cambridge will make a donation to the RAF Benevolent Fund, the RAF’s leading welfare charity.
The ‘Spitfire 80’ is the second limited edition design commissioned by Aston Martin Cambridge, following the Aston Martin ‘Blades Edition’.
Aston Martin’s impressive V12 Vantage S car will be given a themed styling update in the special edition ‘Spitfire 80’ models. The car is painted in a specially created ‘Duxford Green’ colour, including the louvred bonnet which gives the car a bold profile. The Spitfire’s trademark yellow pinstripe will run along the side strakes and deck lid.
Other custom styling includes the front and rear diffusers in satin carbon fibre, and solid sterling silver Aston Martin wings badges with tailored inlay in ‘Old English White’ colour. Customers can also choose to have a Spitfire serial number lacquered into the side strakes.
Inside, the limited edition Vantage S boasts an array of special design features. The Spitfire 80 logo is embroidered on the headrests in ‘Raven Black’ colour and the passenger airbag is embroidered with a unique aircraft identification code.
The saddle leather floor mats reflect the iconic Irvin flying jacket with sheepskin inserts. And the door inserts are finished with pulls in red ‘webbing’ to match the inside of Spitfire aircraft.
The V12 Vantage S ‘Spitfire 80’ also comes with a range of accessories to the complete the aviation theme. This includes a unique Irvin jacket with the Spitfire 80 logo stitched inside and an Irvin flying helmet and goggles. Plus there is a themed car cover, embossed owners’ manual and a leather photo album featuring high-quality images taken on the handover day.
On the day of collection, the eight ‘Spitfire 80’ models will be handed over to their new owners at the historic airfield and museum at IWM Duxford on October 18 2016.
Upon arrival at the iconic airspace hangar, the new owners will have unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the Spitfire’s history and heritage.
There will be a full day of activities, including a talk from a veteran Spitfire pilot an a Spitfire flight experience with Classic Wings. Other events include an armoured vehicle driving experience and a personal tour of the Imperial War Museum.
Plus the Aston Martin Q design team will give a presentation to tell the story of the car’s unique design and features.
Finally, the owners will get the opportunity to drive their new cars on the famous runway at Duxford. The day will end with a stunning display from one of the last Mark 1 Spitfires in the world.
