Audi R8 – with a five-cylinder turbo engine?

All-new second generation Audi R8 V10 and V10 plus models are now being delivered to customers, but Audi is not stopping there with the R8 model offering.

It is rumoured that a five-cylinder turbocharged model is to be released instead of the expected V8, powered by a highly re-engineered version of the five-cylinder turbo seen in the Audi RS 3. With the RS 3 using a version of the 2.5-litre TFSI engine to produce 362bhp, expect the five-cylinder R8 to offer enhanced performance with fine tuning and a lightweight chassis.

An electric production version of the R8 is expected too, the R8 e-tron, offering 456bhp purely from two electric motors, so maybe a hybrid version will emerge in the future to add another choice to the model range.

Completing the Audi R8 line-up for the time being is the 2016 Audi R8 Spyder, the Bavarian brand’s soft-top supercar in the making. In its testing stage, it won’t be long before the order books are open.
