Audi Goodwood Festival of Speed

A day of speed and legends

The highlight of every summer is undoubtedly the Goodwood Festival of Speed, held in the grounds of Charles Gordon-Lennox, Earl of March and Kinrara’s stately home near Chichester in West Sussex. For four wonderful days, over 200,000 spectators come to marvel at the biggest names in motorsport, and to sneak a peek at the year’s new releases. Naturally, Audi always have a front row seat.

This year’s event saw Audi unveil an incredible total of nine new road car models, while a whole host of four-ringed warriors stole the centre of attention on Goodwood’s famous Hill and Forest Rally Stage. Car enthusiasts from all over the place can’t wait to arrive and soak up the sounds of engines revving, but few get to do it from behind the wheel of an icy cool, pearlescent white Audi quattro 20v.

The rain-soaked roads through the Sussex Downs were merely a warm-up for the quattro’s four-wheel drive handling and growling five-cylinder turbocharged engine, arriving at the show a little mud-splattered but better than ever. Parked in a line-up of rally quattros responsible for Audi’s four world titles in the 1980s, a striking image is presented, showcasing the iconic cars responsible for making Audi the legend it is today.

Audi’s golden moments are relived in true style at Goodwood, a thought highlighted as a 1936 560PS Silver Arrows Grand Prix car from Audi’s ancestor company, Auto Union, goes thundering past, driven by Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason. After a dinner of champions (fish, chips and ice cream) it is time to go home, the perfect end to a perfect day.
