The same A4 won the Compact Executive Saloon Award as well as the top prize of 2016, and was commended by the awarding body, who said ‘The A4 brings new standards of refinement, interior quality and technology to the compact executive class; the 3.0 TDI offers effortless performance’.
Dominique Boesch, Audi’s Head of Sales for Europe, commented ‘For the A4 to receive such an award is enormously meaningful for us and is a recognition of the advanced engineering and design that the A4 epitomises, which make it such a popular choice for UK drivers. We could not have hoped for a better result for a car that incorporates all the ‘Vorsprung durch Technik genes that our customers will shortly experience in many more new models in our range’.
The A4’s overall win marks the third recent win for the brand, with the A1 being awarded with the ‘Car of the Year’ award in 2011 and the A3 in 2013 – these awards mark Audi as the sole manufacturer to win the What Car? ‘Car of the Year’ award more than once in the past decade.
For the second consecutive year, the Audi TT 2.0 TFSI 230 Sport took the award for Best Coupé, with the latest-generation following in the footsteps of the previous model. What Car? stated ‘The TT is not just the best coupé on the market, it’s one of the best cars you can buy, full stop’.
These awards don’t come easily, with each shortlisted vehicle being subjected to numerous tests and detailed investigations plus rigorous analysis of all ownership costs and independent ‘True MPG’ testing to find out which cars are the most economical in the real world.
Boesch stated ‘We at Audi feel enormously privileged to be recognised so conclusively with the coveted overall Car of the Year award, the strongest possible vote of confidence from What Car?’.
