Talking traffic lights? Only with Audi

Ever wish you could know exactly how long you’ll be stuck at a red light? Audi are making that a reality with certain 2017 models that will literally be able to communicate with traffic lights. While the initial introduction will have limited capability, this leap forward in technology shows just how far Audi can go in bringing the future closer.

The feature is called Traffic Light Information (TLI), and will be available in selected Audi A4, Q7 and all-road models made after 1st June 2016 that are equipped with an Audi Connect Prime subscription. Initially, it will only be available on the streets of Las Vegas, however the possibilities presented mean it will likely become a standard feature in the not-too-distant future.

When the car approaches a connected traffic light, the TLI in the Audi will receive real-time signal information, enabling it to display the time remaining until the light turns green on the instrument cluster or heads-up display.

The ‘time to green’ feature is just the beginning however; Audi plan to be able to integrate traffic light information into other functions in the car, enabling it to improve a route, stop and start the vehicle to save fuel and even recommend a speed to maximise the number of green lights possible in one journey.

It truly seems as if Audi are leading the way into the future, and we at Jardine Motors Audi can only wait until the TLI features make their way into our cars.
