Audi Sport Bike Pedal Power

Turbo Power to Pedal Power

Audi DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) star Jamie Green, joined by BBC F1 reporter Tom Clarkson, swaps four wheels for two to test out the Audi Sport Racing Bike in the Monaco hills.

Cycling is an important part of many professional racing drivers’ fitness regimes, and Audi DTM driver Jamie Green is no exception. With a passion for bikes that goes beyond fitness, he appreciates the technology behind the machine. ‘A good bike fascinates me,’ he says, ‘and they don’t get much better than the Audi Sport Racing Bike.’

With a limited production run of only 50, and a price tag of £13,608 (subject to exchange rates), the Audi Sport Racing Bike is the ultimate in unique luxury. Barely tipping the scales at a mere 5.8kg, the rigidity remains unmatched due to its carbon-fibre construction, a lightweight material that is also used in the Audi R8 Spyder, TTRS and RS7 Sportback. An innovative electronic gearshift draws inspiration from Audi Sport’s broad DTM and sports car programmes, allowing for a silky smooth gear change. ‘The gears are super-precise. Nothing like as clunky as the ones that you get on a normal bike,’ says Jamie, already appreciating the superior technology the Audi Sport Racing Bike has to offer.

Approaching the breath-taking Col de la Madone, close to the French-Italian border, the climb soon begins to take every ounce of power it can, and it is clear from Jamie’s performance that the Audi bike has plenty to give. Approaching the steepest section of the ascent, he clicks up a couple of gears and quickly races ahead.

Slowing back down, he describes the huge amount of power at his fingertips; ‘When I pull on the handlebars, I can feel power being transferred straight through the rear wheel… It’s a beautiful piece of kit and there’s no wastage – with anything.’ With such immense power and such a lightweight frame, it would be hard to find a better bike anywhere in the world.

Experience sporting power like no other with the range of cars Audi have fielded in motorsport, such as the new Audi TT RS, which you can explore now at Jardine Motors Audi.
