Bentley is planning to add a fifth model to its exclusive line-up in 2018, and there is potential for either a coupé or sports car to join the vehicle family.
Should a sports car be the preferred choice for the luxury brand, it will almost certainly be fitted with the manufacturer’s 4.0-litre V8 engine and include a four-wheel drive arrangement. If a new coupé were to enter production, it would most likely sit between the Continental and Mulsanne alongside the Flying Spur saloon.
“Our designers are extremely busy right now preparing designs for each of them and we are preparing business cases. We will make the decision when we have more information,” commented Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer.
On the possibility of seeing concept versions of the models being considered, Durheimer stated: “If I answer honestly, I would like to do both.” With the company’s new SUV being revealed towards the end of 2015, any decision on a new arrival most likely won’t be made until mid-2016.
The incoming SUV will arrive with Bentley’s W12 powertrain, and a plug-in hybrid and diesel variation are also expected to follow soon after. The technology will see characteristic Bentley power enjoyed with decreased emissions and improved economy, bringing the running costs of the premium vehicle down significantly.
