With a design inspired by high performance yachts, the BMW 6 Series Convertible is a light, elegant, two-door model offering the utmost in comfort. The softtop disappears seamlessly to create a perfect line. The cockpit is dominated by sporty instrument design and the contours focus purely on aerodynamics. The fully automatic softtop provides outstanding acoustic and thermal insulation. When closed, it lends the convertible a coupé-like silhouette. The rear window can be electrically lowered to allow air circulation without drafts, and it can still be heated in cold conditions. For even more fresh air, the softtop folds back at the push of a button into a box in the luggage compartment. It opens in just 19 seconds and closes in 24 seconds at speeds of up to 25 mph.
Technology
The multifunctional instrument display with Black Panel technology and a 10.25-inch screen provides a highly impressive visualisation of the driving experience. At the same time, it prevents distraction and helps the driver to concentrate on the road ahead by displaying relevant information. To the right of the steering wheel, you will find the switch for driver assistance systems and light settings, while directly in front of you is the instrument cluster with all information relevant to driving and safety. This can be projected directly into your field of vision by means of the optional BMW Head-up Display.
Safety
Dynamic Safety is the BMW ConnectedDrive preventive passenger protection system. After the front seat belts are buckled, they are automatically pretensioned when the car starts moving. If a critical situation arises on the road, the front seat belts are reversibly pretensioned and the side windows are closed – as is the sunroof. With Comfort seats, the front passenger seat backrest is automatically returned to an upright position. A critical situation could include emergency braking, or if the car demonstrates excessive understeer or oversteer. After certain kinds of accidents, the system is able to automatically apply the brakes and bring the car to a standstill. This helps reduce the likelihood of a second collision or even prevent one altogether. The Attentiveness Assistant monitors the driver’s behaviour for signs of fatigue. This system analyses the steering response and reacts to irregular driving behaviour by issuing a message in the Control Display suggesting the driver take a break.
Performance
With a 6 cylinder 2993 cc engine, the 6 Series Convertible comes with a top speed of 155mph and reaches 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds. The torque tops out at 630nm between 1500- 2500rpm whilst the power totals 230kw at 4400 rpm. In addition, 20-inch light alloy wheels help keep the BMW 6-series on the road.
