The Ferrari 365 P Berlinetta Speciale model was first made available in 1966, built by Italian coachbuilder Pininfarina. Only two units were ever created, and one is due to go up for auction during the August Gooding and Company sale which takes place in Monterey, California. The unit being auctioned was owned by Luigi Chinetti Sr, who won Le Mans in 1949 and 1965 utilising Ferrari vehicles. Chinetti is renowned for organising a deal with Enzo Ferrari to become the only official Ferrari dealer in the USA.
The Speciale features a layout in which the driver is in the middle of three seats, which was a design later used by McLaren in its F1 supercar. It is powered by a 4.4 litre V12 engine which sits behind the driver, and is capable of delivering 380bhp and a top speed of 186mph.
The car is to be sold by the Chinetti family, and is expected to reach a price of approximately £20 million. This price will see the Speciale place among some of the most valuable cars sold worldwide to date.
