Jaguar Drivers’ Club celebrates Diamond Anniversary

To celebrate its landmark 60th anniversary, the Jaguar Drivers’ Club recently held a prestigious event at Coombe Abbey in Warwickshire. More than 2,500 club members attended from across the UK and overseas, bringing with them more than 700 classic and modern Jaguar cars.

Guests walked around Coombe Abbey’s stunning grounds viewing the Jaguar cars on show, whilst the Club Registers held their annual Concours – the best examples have been entered into the national Jaguar Champion of Champions competition, which takes place at the Birmingham NEC’s Classic Motor Show (11th – 13th November).

In attendance at the Jaguar Drivers’ Club Anniversary Event was renowned Jaguar test driver and engineer, Norman Dewis – 55 years ago, Norman drove from Coventry to Geneva in just 13 hours. Devoted club President, Lord Steel of Aikwood, also attended the event, presenting prizes to Jaguar owners and marking the momentous occasion in the club’s history.

A day-long celebration of the British car manufacturer ended on a high with an anniversary dinner dance in a marquee on the Abbey’s grounds for over 200 members. Music for the day was provided by The Jaguar Land Rover Band, premier championship brass band.

Kathy Beech, CEO of the Jaguar Drivers’ Club, commented on the event: ‘Coombe Abbey appealed for a number of reasons – including its geographically significant location. The hotel is centrally located, which was not only important as it made the event easily accessible to visitors across the country and those travelling from abroad, but it is also based in the homeland of Jaguar – which added to the sense of occasion.’

Even more significantly, Beech went on to say that: ‘The hotel was also the final destination for the Club tour from Blackpool, where Jaguar first began, to its current home in Coventry – and we were impressed by the quality of the venue. All guests enjoyed the weekend and it was great to be able to host such a vast amount of our members at one venue.’
