Design Previous generations of Discovery were much loved for their upright, utilitarian lines but the shape wasn’t very aerodynamic and that affected fuel efficiency. The new design has a rising waistline, fast windscreen angle and contoured shape to push this large vehicle through the air more efficiently, saving fuel. The body-coloured C-pillar and stepped roof are a nod to previous Discovery design DNA, while the wraparound headlamps and taillamps help reduce visual length.
Performance Discovery is available with two diesel engines, the 240HP Sd4 and the V6 Sd6, which develops 306HP and a massive 700Nm of torque. Land Rover also offers the petrol Ingenium Si4 engine that develops 300HP, with maximum torque of 400Nm. All are paired with the advanced 8-speed automatic transmission, which offers seamless shifting and high levels of efficiency. The Discovery puts its power down to all four wheels via permanent all-wheel drive and Land Rover’s hugely capable Terrain Response systems that adapt to any surface, be it tarmac, mud, snow or sand.
Technology The Discovery’s 11.4 inch touchscreen and Pivi Pro infotainment keeps driver and passengers entertained and connected to the outside world. Second and third row passengers don’t travel second class either – there are USB charging point for every row of seats and the optional Rear Seat Entertainment System features two 8" screens built into the rear of the front headrests.
Safety Standard safety systems include Lane Keep Assist, which prevents you from unintentionally drifting out of lane, and Emergency Braking that first warns then applies the brakes if no action is taken. Other standard features include Driver Condition Monitor and front and rear parking aid with rear camera. Blind Spot Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control are among the available options.
