James Martin’s tips for the perfect Land Rover tailgate picnic
The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials are known for more than just world-class equestrian entertainment; namely, the annual Land Rover Tailgate Picnic Competition. Held on cross-country day, this fun feature has become popular with spectators, and competition runs higher and higher each year. Judges, Zara Tindall and TV presenter and farmer Adam Henson, certainly had their work cut out for them as they moved between bunting-clad gazebos, tasting and inspecting, but they finally settled on Lucy Sharpley and her friends as the winners.
This year, the picnics were more remarkable than ever thanks to some advice from TV chef James Martin, who gave five tips on how to make the perfect picnic:
The Land Rover Tailgate Picnic Competition was held on Saturday 3rd September, in the reserved car park at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. James Martin also provided two recipes that taste even better after sitting in a car for a while, so you can recreate the winning picnic for yourself wherever you are.
When it comes to the tailgate part of the picnic, Land Rover’s iconic design lends itself perfectly for ease of use when laying out a wonderful spread. While any Land Rover would step up your picnic game, the ideal choice has to be the Land Rover Discovery 4, whose classic and robust design offers plenty of space along with stunning off-road performance, allowing you to find the perfect view to go with your food.
