Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations has recently introduced the Range Rover Sentinel, the first luxury armoured vehicle that the brand has fully engineered. The Sentinel provides the highest levels of protection offered in an SUV, and it’s hand-built at the brand’s Oxford Road facility.
The mobile fortress is based on a standard wheelbase Range Rover Autobiography, and it looks almost identical to this standard model, hiding its ability to withstand a wide variety of attacks. The Sentinel offers supreme comfort, plenty of space for two adults in the rear, command driving position and all-terrain capability as you would naturally expect from a Range Rover.
Built to withstand penetration by 7.62mm high velocity, armour piercing incendiary bullets and offering lateral protection against up to 15kg TNT blasts, the Range Rover Sentinel offers truly exceptional protection. With defence against DM51 grenade explosions from beneath the floor and above the roof, you’ll be safe and secure from all angles.
Providing world-class protection from attack is a super-high-strength steel armoured passenger cell. Multi-laminated armour privacy glass of optical quality replaces standard glass and delivers bullet protection as well as excellent clarity. An anti-tamper exhaust, self-sealing fuel tank, auxiliary back-up battery and split charging system are also incorporated.
Revised Dynamic Stability Control and Ride Stability Control systems mean that a payload of up to 650kg can be carried, plus suspension has been up-rated to retain ride comfort and handling. Standard Range Rover features, such as Blind Spot Monitoring, Closing Vehicle Sensing and Surround Camera Security are included, lending themselves perfectly to the Sentinel’s duties.
With run flat inserts in the tyres, the Sentinel can escape situations even with deflated tyres. With a 340PS 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine with specially-calibrated ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, there’s plenty of power readily available. If the doors are blocked, the Sentinel’s Emergency Escape System behind the rear seats enables exit of the vehicle – but the elegant split-level tailgate subtly masks this smart feature from the outside.
John Edwards, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, said: ‘The Range Rover Sentinel is one of the most extraordinary Range Rovers ever produced. It has been expertly engineered by Special Vehicle Operations to provide class-leading levels of protection to occupants against extreme attack, whilst retaining the Range Rover’s luxury and refinement with off road capability.’
Fully certified to VR8 standard against ballistic threats by QinetiQ®, the Range Rover Sentinel is fully EU Homologated, available in the UK, Europe, South America, Africa and the Middle East. Further optional protection systems are available, plus customers can choose from an extensive range of exterior paint colours and interior colours.
Available to order now, the Sentinel benefits from a three-year, 50,000-mile warranty, as well as additional global aftersales support, with annual scheduled visits by a specialised technician. A full driver-training programme ensures that drivers can handle the vehicle to maximum effect in all circumstances. To register your interest, contact Lancaster Land Rover.
