Lexus RC

Introduction

Lexus’ delightful RC two-door coupé incorporates elements from the manufacturer’s IS and GS models to create a car with a sleek, bold profile.

It is also powered by a choice of petrol or hybrid engines that deliver outstanding performance and fuel economy.

The Lexus RC coupé can be viewed and test driven from early 2015 at the Lancaster Lexus dealerships in Cambridge, Ipswich and Newcastle.

Design

A vast black-barred grille dominates the face of the RC, surrounded by chrome detailing and flanked by sharp-angled headlights and deeply moulded air intakes. The resulting menacing, “masked” look of the coupé is complemented by the sweep of the roofline, the deep curves along the sides, and 18” or 19” alloy wheels.

Inside the driver-focused cabin, high-backed seats provide excellent lumbar support for up to four occupants. A thick-grip leather steering wheel, along with clear dials and instruments derived from aeroplane cockpits, emphasise the dynamic, high-performance nature of the vehicle. Ambient lighting, a 7” navigation screen and shimamoku wood trims add even more refinement.

Safety

Despite its lithe looks, the RC is anything but fragile. Its strong structure is backed up with front and side airbags for the driver and passenger, a driver's knee airbag, a front passenger seat cushion airbag and a curtain shield airbag, giving all occupants comprehensive protection in the event of a high-speed collision. An array of active safety features help to prevent such a situation from occurring in the first place. ABS, Traction Control, Vehicle Stability Control, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and other clever functions help drivers to maintain control of the car in the most difficult circumstances, whilst proactive measures such as Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Warning Monitor and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert offer a safeguard against any momentary loss of concentration.

Technology

The RC is available with a 3.5 litre V6 petrol engine, a dual-injection motor which delivers 350PS and 380Nm of torque at 4800rpm and is linked to an eight-speed “direct shift" automatic transmission with paddle-shift controls. The petrol-hybrid edition incorporates a smaller 2.5 litre 178PS V6 engine with a 141PS electric motor, reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions. The RC is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, and the Lexus Dynamic Handling system ensures greater cornering capability. The response is further enhanced by a well-damped, pliant suspension. The interior's Remote Touch Interface allows you access to a variety of different communications functions through the 7" touchscreen.
