Coming soon: the all-new Mazda MX-5 RF

Yet another interpretation of the world-famous Mazda MX-5 is set to debut in UK showrooms. The upcoming all-new Mazda MX-5 RF has already started making appearances at some of this year's most anticipated international motoring events.

Exterior design

A brand new metallic Machine Grey exterior colour scheme helps to emphasise the athletic fastback roof line. In a notable difference to the original Mazda MX-5, the new RF edition will feature a hard-top roof. 'RF' itself stands for 'Retractable Fastback'. The roof opens and closes electronically in only 12 seconds – and works at up to 6mph.

Interior design

This incarnation of the MX-5 continues to offer two supportive seats. The folding roof makes no impact on the luggage space available – 130 litres.

With the roof in place, increased soundproofing adds to the relaxation you will feel as you drive. The suspension and power steering configurations are also unique to the car.

Engines and performance

Two SKYACTIV-G petrol engines comprise the range for the RF, at 131ps and 160ps. Both have been carefully tuned specifically to increase power and efficiency in the convertible. A six-speed automatic transmission will now be available, joining the manual gearbox typically fitted to the MX-5. As well as enhancing the engine's confident rumble, the changes mean stronger fuel economy from the roadster on each journey.

Safety and technology

Protective measures and security will naturally be high – this is something motorists demand from every new Mazda. The MZD-Connect infotainment system has been confirmed for the RF, granting easy access to music and other connectivity services in motion.
