The Mazda RX-VISION has triumphed at the 2016 Car Design award ceremony, taking home the gold in the concept car category. Praised for the worthiest contribution to the evolution of automobile design, it’s another accolade for Mazda’s sports cars range.
Kevin Price, Mazda’s Europe Design Director, praised the efforts of the Mazda team upon accepting the award: “ Obviously I’m delighted at the recognition we’re getting at Mazda for our efforts, not only in the design arena but also for the technology that enables our vehicles to live up to what their looks promise”. He also pointed out that RX-VISION has exceeded all expectations and is already among the most desirable sports cars for the upcoming year.
This new model from Mazda has managed to overtake some of the top models in its category, including Alpine Vision Concept, BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage and the Porsche Mission E Concept. The 2016 Car Design award is the second accolade for the Mazda RX-VISION which already snatched the Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year award at the 31st Festivale Automobile Internationals in Paris in January.
The most distinctive features of the car complement a very sleek and unique design with oval shapes and compact body. The KODO – soul of motion design philosophy epitomizes pure performance and innovation. Another exceptional feature for Mazda across its whole range is the SKYACTIV-R rotary engine which is distinctive for the brand.
The Car Design Award is one of the most prestigious automobile honours and features prizes in three categories, including production vehicles and brand design language. The jury consists of 11 members – representatives of high profile magazines on four continents. Originally launched in 1984, the Car Design Award is organised by Auto & Design. The magazine resurrected the contest this year after a 19-year hiatus.
