Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate 2021

DESIGN

The E-Class Estate is designed to be effortlessly dynamic, with a smooth contoured side section, plus the visually striking, sporty front end with large air intakes, flatter LED headlamps and the unmistakable front grille with large central star. The sweeping exterior design is full of energy, and wheels range from 18” to 20” depending on your chosen trim. The interior continues this same level of sporty elegance, with luxurious trim and high quality materials set off by multicolour ambient lighting. Heated leather front seats offer a multitude of height and back settings, with options including multi-contoured front seats and a memory package, storing the favourite seating positions of different drivers for a tailor-made experience. Another notable (and useful) feature is the boot: it has a 640-litre capacity which extends to a huge 1,820-litres with all seats down and the low load lip makes it easy to access.

TECHNOLOGY

As expected with Mercedes-Benz, the E-Class Estate hosts a range of impressive tech. The latest MBUX system features across two 12.3” screens – the left hosting driver information and the right a touchscreen for infotainment. With the MBUX Interior Assistant, you can control different functions with a simple hand gesture, or activate the voice assistant by saying “Hey Mercedes”. Also making life easier is the MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation displayed via the digital cockpit. The MBUX system also uses AI to anticipate your needs. Mercedes gives the example that if you regularly call a specific person on Tuesdays when driving home from work, you’ll receive their phone number as a suggestion in the display on this day of the week. Another cool feature is energising comfort control, which uses sound, lighting and seat massage modes to improve your wellbeing so you can relax on longer journeys.

Driver assistance systems include Active Braking Assist, Attention and Blind Spot Assist, along with a traffic sign recognition system and an active parking function. Cruise control and Adaptive Highbeam Assist are also standard. Urban Guard protects the car against crime and, if its activated, you’ll be notified by the Mercedes me app.

FEATURES

Mercedes offer a choice of three diesel engines, one petrol and a plug-in diesel powertrain for the E-Class Estate, all using a nine speed automatic gearbox. Starting with the diesels, there’s the entry-level 2.0-litre E 200 d which produces 191bhp, does the 0-62mph sprint in 7.6 seconds and achieves 50.4mpg. Next is the E 300 d and E 400 d, both of which come with four-wheel drive and generate 216bhp and 325bhp respectively. Moving onto the plug-in hybrid, you can expect an impressive power output of 202bhp, whilst the E 200 petrol engine generates 194bhp. With full charge, the plug-in hybrid can drive for 30 miles on electric power alone, which means the E-Class Estate boasts an average economy of a whopping 201.8mpg. If you’re after even more performance, the E 53 and E 63 AMG models produce an impressive 429bhp and 603bhp respectively.
