Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton from the MERCEDES AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 Team took time out during the run-up to the Monaco Grand Prix on 29 May 2016 to meet up – but this time on the waves rather than the racetrack.
Testing out his driving skills on water, Lewis Hamilton set out on a Cigarette Racing speedboat, while Rosberg took a more relaxed approach, cruising off the coast of Monaco on the Mercedes-Benz Style luxury motor yacht.
Living up to the motto "Speed & Style" the two demonstrated that the worlds of modern luxury and racing performance blend perfectly under the Mercedes-Star – whether it’s on water or on land.
Equipped with the most powerful series-production twin engines in the Cigarette portfolio, the “Cigarette Racing 50 Marauder AMG Monaco Concept” modelled by Hamilton, truly achieves high-performance status.
Two Mercury Racing V8 racing engines, each with 1140 kW, take the 50 foot-long and 8 foot-wide powerboat to an estimated top speed of over 228 km/h (more than 142 mph).
The Mercedes-Benz designers who were behind the speedboat’s exterior design opted for black and silver tones contrasted by sporty turquoise green highlights. The interior design of the Cigarette Racing 50 Marauder AMG Monaco Concept” drew inspiration from the classic Cigarette Racing cockpit, with a user interface which comprises state-of-the-art technologies.
Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing have been working in partnership since 2007 with an equal passion for performance and success.
The luxurious "ARROW460-Granturismo" motor yacht used by Rosberg at the event recently received its world premiere in April 2016. Mercedes-Benz Style were the team behind its design and was developed together with Silver Arrow Marine.
The 14-metre-long 706 kW (960 hp) yacht, dubbed the "Silver Arrow of the Seas", perfectly combines the latest unique innovations from the boat industry with the performance of the famous Mercedes-Benz sports cars.
Its innovative design also uniquely fuses the advantages of an open boat with those of a hull cabin, while its crossover design offers supreme practicality by creating a boat which is equally suitable for day trips as it overnight stays.
Regarding both models, Gorden Wagener Head of Design at Daimler stated: "The Cigarette Racing speedboat and our Mercedes-Benz Style luxury yacht ‘ARROW460-Granturismo’ represent a coming together of two design icons.” He went on to add: "The ‘ARROW460-Granturismo’ carries our Mercedes genes throughout. We have transferred an automotive design idiom to a yacht – and this design statement far outside the usual mainstream in the boat industry allows us to create a totally original aesthetic."To find out more about any of our new or used Mercedes-Benz models, contact your nearest Jardine Motors Mercedes-Benz dealership or enquire online here on the Jardine Motors website.
