The MINI Fluid Fashion Capsule Collection

MINI is continuing its fashion-forward attitude at the 90th Pitti Uomo in Florence – presenting a limited-run sweatshirt collection for one of the most influential fairs for men’s fashion and contemporary lifestyle.

MINI FLUID FASHION highlights the breaking of boundaries and the pursuit for new discovery, combining the design expertise of MINI with major input from five up-and-coming labels based in five different countries. Each of the designers created their own take on the MINI brand’s values in the form of modish statements on sweatshirts designed by MINI. The sweatshirt was chosen for its ‘democratic’ and ubiquitous standing in the fashion world; it is entirely gender-neutral and can be equally at home on the runway and on the high street.

The MINI ethos shines through even in their choice of designers, each of the five making a bold name by challenging the norm and engaging in current issues with bright, exciting designs. Hien Le (Germany) puts marked emphasis on subtle lines that emphasise the present, while remaining classic and timeless. His design showcased the Instagram ‘like’ heart in the negative form that has guided his latest collection. “For me, MINI FLUID FASHION is about boundlessness, courage and, above all, love,” he explains. “These are things that have always been big for me and are now more important than ever.”

Études Studio (France) reflects the fashion landscape with bold and experimental cross-platform collaborations. Their work for the MINI FLUID FASHION Capsule Collection showcases their visionary style in essential form: “The phrase ‘out of the blue’ refers to the notion of the unexpected and spontaneous, with the ability to see positivity and optimism in everything. ‘Out of the blue’ represents the beauty that comes from the moments and places where it is least expected.”

Agi & Sam (UK) reflect MINI’s attitude of never taking things too seriously, invigorating their creativity with flashes of humour mixed with dedicated research and application. Staying true to their love of vibrant colours and contrasting design, their creation for the collection is a burst of geometric patterns and exciting colour.

Likewise, Sankuanz (China) are hallmarked by their unconventional and brightly coloured designs, fusing the aesthetic of classical Chinese comics from the 1980s with the contemporary Sankuanz logo and a classic MINI symbolising a friendly approach to urban living for their sweatshirt.

Sunnei (Italy) were a discovery from the Pitti Uomo 89 early this year, and have again brought their immense talent and style to MINI: “We are obsessed with stripes and that's why we decided to match them with our motto ‘every day I wear Sunnei’, which is about being confident with your style without caring about trends. We love the fact that if you see these graphics from afar, they look like a Vichy pattern and then when you get closer you discover what it means.”
