7 Car Films To Look Out For Over Christmas

It’s Christmas! That means it’s time to gather around the TV with friends and family, gorge on the leftovers and relax with a good film.

But with so much choice over the Christmas period, we thought we’d pick out the best car films you don't want to miss over Christmas and New Year’s.

The Film Guide

FURIOUS 7 (2015)

The seventh instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise is the most successful yet.

In fact, it’s the sixth highest-grossing film of all time. This is largely down to the fact that it’s an absolute car fest, full of the fastest and most powerful vehicles around such as the Aston Martin DB9 and Maserati Ghibli.

These cars, coupled with an all-star cast, are befitting of a true blockbuster.

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD (2015)

Ever wondered what it might be like driving in a post-apocalyptic world? Well if Mad Max: Fury Road is anything to go by, then the clue is in the name.

The film is essentially a two-hour rip-roaring car chase, in which the story plays out through beautifully shot action sequences featuring the most incredibly designed petrol guzzlers.

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG (1968)

This classic family film is a perfect Christmas Day movie choice that people of all ages will enjoy and can sing along to.

The film is named after the real star of the film: a broken race car – turned magical flying machine – called Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, who helps a family go on a fantastical adventure.

Following the film’s success, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has become a film icon and is recognised as one of the family greats.

RONIN (1998)

This adrenaline-pumping crime action film starring Robert De Niro is a great choice for car fans, not least because it features some of the most memorable car chases in film history which are acknowledged for their authenticity and technical achievements.

Some of the cars that feature regularly in the film are an Audi S8, a BMW 535i and a Mercedes 450 SEL.

CARS (2006)

Cars (2006) is a great family car film to watch over Christmas, and not just because it is the most appropriately named film on the list!

This computer-animated adventure film is full of Disney Pixar charm, innovation and entertainment, and features a plethora of recognisable car characters.

THE LOVE BUG (1968)

Herbie, the anthropomorphic 1963 Volkswagen Beetle, is one of the most iconic film cars in history. In this family adventure film, we see the lovable racing Beetle team up with a down-on-his-luck driver, helping steer him to success.

The public took to Herbie so much that this film spawned a whole host of sequels and reboots.

SKYFALL (2012)

Bond films come thick and fast at this time of year and have become something of a Christmas tradition in many British households. Luckily, they always feature a spectacle of cars.

Skyfall (2012) is one of the most critically acclaimed Bond films and makes for a great New Year’s Day movie. It’s a film that is packed full of great cars such as a Land Rover Defender, an Audi A5 and a Jaguar XJ. But it’s the return of the iconic 1964 Aston Martin DB5 steals the show. The DB5 is Bond’s car of choice as he takes a long drive up to scenic Scotland in preparation for the film’s epic finale.
