It’s time for a new look at Toyota, with a redesigned multimedia system being introduced to all 2016 model cars.

The new design has an emphasis on simplicity, focusing on customer usage with a tile-based menu design, along with improved functionality and simplified connection to the MyToyota customer portal. The range has also been streamlined, Toyota now offering just two choices; the Toyota Touch 2, and Toyota Touch 2 with Go.

The benefits of Toyota Touch 2 with Go include three years of free annual map care updates and connected services, while high-spec Excel grade models also include 3D maps, voice recognition and text-to-speech capabilities.

The new system also offers 10 new features to improve clarity and also reduce the number of steps needed to complete operations. A split screen has also been introduced to allow for more functions to be seen at a glance, with access to settings and app information overlaid on the navigation map and the option to create short cuts to frequently used destinations.

One of the exciting new features is Auto-navigation, which allows up to four regular destinations to be programmed with a departure time window for every day of the week. If the vehicle is turned on within a programmed time window, the navigation will then automatically plan the most congestion-free route, taking information from TomTom real-time traffic updates.

The navigation improvements don’t stop there, the Touch 2 with Go also includes the option to check Street View images and even see what the weather is like at your destination. The system will also let you know of available nearby parking spaces as you approach your destination, so you really don’t have to worry about a thing.

If you have an iPhone, you can also take advantage of Siri eyes-free software, controlled from a button on the steering wheel to give you complete control of your phone without ever looking away from the road. Creating an account has never been easier too; all you need to do is establish a mobile data connection within the car and input your details, so no more fiddling around with the unit’s individual ID number.

This exciting new system will be installed in every current model produced from 1 June, and new models such as Toyota C-HR will have the system from the start of production. If you want to know about how to update your system, have a look at the video tutorial.
