The first sketches have been revealed of the 2016 Crafter van from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The new generation Crafter is due to be launched this autumn.
The sketches show that the Crafter will keep Volkswagen’s design DNA and promises innovation combined with a high level of quality and functionality.
Volkswagen says the new Crafter is conceived as the ‘big brother’ of the VW T-Series and will be a completely new vehicle.
The new generation Crafter has been created with a customer-centric approach. Design and engineering experts at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles have worked closely with current customers to shape the new van.
They accompanised customers during their daily routines to explore their needs and discover their visions of what they wanted the Crafter to be.
This customer-centric approach is highly analytical, which is reflected in the van’s function and design. The new Crafter is intended to work for lots of different uses and customer groups.
Volkswagen will release more information about the new generation Crafter in due course, but here is what we know already.
The Crafter will have a drag coefficient of just 0.33, making it the best in its class. And it has optimised cargo space to create great everyday practicality.
It is designed to have a high level of surface quality combined with a robustness and high qualitative value. Volkswagen has also said that the new design language shown on the Crafter will continue across all new commercial vehicle derivatives and models.
