On 25 August 2015, an XL1- one of only 200 produced globally- was delivered to the team at Lancaster Volkswagen Milton Keynes, making them the proud custodians of the world’s most efficient liquid-filled production car.
The third evolutionary stage of Volkswagen’s 1-litre car strategy, the XL1 is the realisation of the manufacturer’s visionary goal of bringing a production car to market that is practical for everyday use, yet offers a low fuel consumption of one litre per 100 km.
Produced at Volkswagen’s Osnabrück plant in Germany, using handcrafting-like production methods, the XL1 boasts pure sports car design principles: low weight (795 kg), perfect aerodynamics (Cd 0.189) and a low centre of gravity (1153 mm high). Yet, with a fuel consumption value of 0.9 l/ 100 km, it is the most fuel-efficient production car in the world. Thanks to its plug-in hybrid system, the two-seater can also cover a distance of up to 50 km in all-electric mode, with zero local emissions.
Delivered by representatives from Volkswagen Group, who conducted a thorough handover of the vehicle, the XL1 was welcomed into the Milton Keynes dealership by John Stanton, Brand Director of Volkswagen, Škoda and Seat at Jardine Motors Group.
Hailed as the future of motoring, the acquisition of the XL1 is a clear sign that Jardine Motors Group is not only proud of its 180 years of heritage and success, but also that it has its eyes firmly set on the future.
In its current position in the entrance of the Milton Keynes showroom, the XL1, with its design for a new era, is garnering considerable attention from staff and customers alike, who are all eager to catch a glimpse of the car of the future, built today.
