Anyone in possession of the new XC90 will discover a recent software update to the media system that enables Apple CarPlay. This now means that third-party apps, as well as On Call, Volvo’s own app, can be installed. On Call gives users the facility to control their car remotely.
The software update enables XC90 drivers to enjoy full integration between their iPhone and the car’s Sensus Connect infotainment system. This allows the phone’s screen content to be mirrored on the vehicle’s 9.5-inch screen.
The update brings music services such as Spotify, Stitcher, iHeartRadio and Beats Music to the SUV, along with Apple Music. Siri can also now be used for hands-free and voice-activated telephone communication and messaging. Finding directions and choosing music are other options that Siri can help with.
Managing director of Volvo Car UK Nick Connor said, “Apple CarPlay is an exciting addition to our XC90 range.” He added, “It brings cutting-edge functionality and integration for owners, allowing them to access their phone’s features any way they want.” O’Connor also asserted that Apple CarPlay ensures drivers can stay connected “safely and simply from behind the wheel.”
The installation comes at a cost, between £250 and £300, depending on the trim level. However, the update also brings improvements to mapping, satellite navigation functions and voice control, all of which are free of charge.
