The Volvo S90 was revealed at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year, but the beefier R-Design with sportier trim has been spotted testing in the Scandinavian snow.
Expected to debut at a motor show later this year and due in dealerships this summer, this suspected best-selling Volvo S90 trim features a more aggressive front end, sportier bodykit, multi-spoke sport wheels, a deeper chin spoiler, additional cooling vents and more athletic fog light housings.
When the XC90 R-Design was launched last year, Alain Visser, Volvo marketing chief, said: ‘R-Design is created for people with a passion for things that add spice to life. It appeals to customers that love active driving and a personal, expressive design. Every single R-Design detail is designed to contribute to the individualistic and refined expression these customers desire.’ And that is exactly what you can expect from the S90 R-Design too.
Expect additional equipment compared to the S90’s other model variants too, which will help Volvo to sell the sporty, sophisticated R-Design trim that they estimate will make up roughly 45% of all S90 sales in the UK.
With the Polestar division now in-house, Volvo has expected that in the future, genuine high-performance options will be available in the range, offering similar aesthetics to the R-Design but with more potent powertrains.
