Nearly 6 months after the Aston Martin DB11 was globally unveiled at Geneva 2016, the reviews are finally in and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.
It’s been 13 years since the DB9 (the last DB series production car) was released. So the pressure has been on Aston Martin to deliver on such high expectations after such a long wait and an illustrious history.
It therefore would’ve come as a great relief to Aston Martin as the five star reviews began to flood in this month after a press embargo placed on the new DB11 car was finally lifted.
Here’s what some of the reviewers had to say about the DB11:
The DB11 ticked all the right boxes for Auto Express whose five star review labels it as “the best Aston Martin in decades”. They praise it for its ultimate combination of speed, style and sophistication, stating: “It looks great inside and out, the new twin-turbo engine is a masterpiece, and the ride and handling balance is unrivalled”.
Autocar gave the new model another five star review, stating that the “Aston Martin DB11 spearheads a completely new model range explosion by Aston. And it's brilliant”. They also focussed largely around the improvements to the DB11’s chassis, interior and its outstanding agility for a 2+2, 1900kg, V12-engined grand tourer.
A review by Pistonheads says that with the new DB11, Aston Martin’s “Second Century plans look to have solid foundations”, and describe the car as a big enough break from the past, both technically and stylistically, but faithful enough to the DB’s history to please long-standing fans.
For some reviewers, the DB11 is more than just a brilliant new supercar. Both Motor Trend and The Globe and Mail go as far as calling it the most important car in Aston Martin’s history. This is because the Aston Martin DB11 marks the beginning of a new era for the British manufacturer as the first car to be launched under their ‘Second Century’ plan.
What is distinguishable about the new DB11 is its all-new innovatively crafted aluminium bodywork and chassis, which results in a more lightweight yet robust vehicle. This, coupled with a brand new 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine which is the most powerful DB series engine ever.
The Aston Martin DB11 is a remarkable grand tourer that should prove to be extremely significant for the future of Aston Martin. If this is the car to set the benchmark for the next phase of Aston Martin models, then the future looks incredibly bright.
