Design

The S5 features a new, tauter look with striking, sharp design. Styling updates include the aggressive S-Line front and rear bumpers, aluminium-look mirror caps, a revised diffuser, an updated honeycomb grille and a new exhaust system with dual-chrome tailpipes. Sporty accents also include larger front air intake grilles with dual struts in aluminium, as well as S-specific side air inlets. Inside, front S-embossed Super Sport seats in Fine Nappa leather are electrically adjustable and even offer a relaxing massage function. For versatility, the rear seats split into three parts to offer a generous amount of boot space at 430 litres in the Sportback and 410 litres in the Coupe. Carbon-fibre inlays and contrast stitching ensures the sporty aesthetic is continued throughout the interior, as well as the leather Sport steering wheel featuring perforated leather grips, transition paddles and S badging.

Features

S Sport Suspension lowers the car by 23mm, offering sportier handling and a feeling of being closer to the road. Quick responses, quattro all-wheel drive handling and the dynamic power steering make the S5 a car that can be confidently driven quickly, even in poor conditions. Aiding this are 19” or 20” (depending on trim) 5-twin spoke design alloy wheels. Meanwhile, Audi Drive Select enables the driver to switch between a range of pre-configured modes, including Comfort or Dynamic, depending on the desired driving style. To finish off, the intimidating Audi Matrix LED headlights perform uniquely to each individual driving situation, indicators use a modern sweeping motion, and Audi Beam projects the Audi logo onto the ground when exiting the car – a feature that’s sure to be a hit with brand-lovers.

Performance & Technology

The Audi S5 uses a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 with Electric Powered Compressor technology for a more responsive engine with increased power and torque compared to the last-generation S5. With 324hp and a huge 700Nm of torque, the 0 – 62mph sprint takes just 4.9 seconds. The switch to a powerful diesel engine is logical from an efficiency standpoint, with the typical S5 driver using their car to rack up motorway and A-road miles. It also uses a 48V Mild Hybrid System, helping to lift pressure off the engine in certain situations - between 34mph and 99mph, the engine can completely shut down and the car can coast for up to 40 seconds. The car is filled with a range of impressive infotainment tech, giving it a modern feel; the MMI Navigation Plus with MMI Touch is visible on a 10.1” display, and Audi Virtual Cockpit housed by a 12.3” digital instrument cluster. The MMI system offers lots of functionality and smartphone connectivity with ease due to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, as well as wireless charging, as standard.

Safety

Lending a hand when it comes to manoeuvring, the Audi Parking Assistance Pack helps to guide the driver into tight spots with audible and visual signals. Also fitted in the S5, the Pre-sense City system uses the camera located on the front rear-view mirror to detect vehicles and pedestrians; if an imminent collision is detected, the system warns the driver and even initiates emergency braking if necessary. The Driver Assistance Pack provides a whole host of additional safety features, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go function and Traffic-jam Assist, Predictive Efficiency Assistant, Audi Pre-sense Rear and Basic, Collision Avoidance Assistant, Turn Assist and Active Lane Assist.
