Audi: The perfect skiing partner

Audi: The perfect skiing partner

Forget cosy log cabins, stone chimneys and picket fences; the resort of Flaine in the Alps presents a much starker outline on the mountain than traditional skiers are used to. It seemed the perfect place to take the Audi A6 Avant; matching its clean, Floret silver lines with the clean concrete lines of the hotels.

The French town opened in 1969, immediately drawing some of the most affluent tourists and marked as a rising star among ski resorts. The famous Bauhaus architect Marcel Breuer designed the prominent buildings at the height of his career, and it seemed as if Flaine would soon become the most fashionable place on the Alps.

The town was a victim of the times however, and soon the avant-garde buildings resembled too closely council housing blocks and Soviet Russia. The promising resort lay dormant, catering to lower market holiday-makers, and was soon forgotten.

Today, Flaine is enjoying success once more, thanks to the latest opening from Maisons et Hotels Sibuet, one of France’s most renowned luxury hoteliers. Le Totem hotel has been renovated with no expense spared, bringing Bauhaus back into the spotlight with mid-century furnishings and Navajo Indian-inspired fabrics.

Parked outside, the Audi A6 Avant cuts a striking figure, even with the Audi ski and luggage box sitting neatly on top. The high-quality, rivet-free box offers both style and substance with 405 litres of space and a 75kg load capacity, meaning you can say goodbye to rental skis.
