Audi Truck of the Future

The truck of the future

On 13 June 2016, social media was set to buzzing at a photo that began circulating, apparently showing a new truck in production by Audi. It turned out to be a conceptual design, and while a few were disappointed, it still represents a very exciting future ahead for the luxury car brand.

The designs were created by Artem Smirnov and Vladimir Panchenko, whose goal was to develop an autonomous electric truck for Audi. Two concepts were released, with a question asking the public to choose their favourite. Option A shows an electric truck with autonomous driving capabilities, designed for highways, while Option B shows an electric truck show car.

The two designs are suitably futuristic, with smoothed edges and clean lines. The cabins on each present a formidable aspect, devoid of anything but the Audi badge and almost resembling the smooth noses of trains or aircraft.

While there are currently no plans from Audi to build either of the designs, the concepts provide a glimpse into a future not so far away. The trucks both carry Audi’s stylistic cues in their smooth bodies and refined style, and while there continue to be leaps and bounds in the area of autonomous driving, it remains possible that these trucks, or similar, will come into being sooner rather than later.

If you fancy a bit of the future now, why not book a test drive in the Audi R8 Spyder here at Jardine Motors Audi?
