With the performance of a supercar and an interior more reminiscent of a prestigious hotel lounge than a motor car, the Mulsanne Speed is an extraordinarily well-built vehicle even by Bentley's astronomically high standards. As befits its regal yet poised stance, this vehicle is capable of astonishing speed and manoeuvrability – and does it all whilst retaining the same air of unflappable poise.
The new Bentley Mulsanne Speed can be discovered in more detail at Jardine Motors Group dealerships in Essex and Kent.
The Mulsanne Speed's pace necessitates a raft of protective systems to head off dangerous situations before they arise, and a full complement of protective mechanisms.
Front, side, head and thorax airbags help the strong frame of the Mulsanne Speed to provide a barrier against any impact.
Whilst a raft of traction control systems make this large vehicle easy to control in the most difficult circumstances.
Instantly recognisable as a Bentley due to its matrix stainless steel grille (which can be chosen in the same colour as the bodywork or in chromium plate), the Mulsanne Speed is 5575mm in length and weighs 2685kg.
Yet this vehicle looks neither overblown nor brash, carrying its weight well with its low roofline and modest rear section.
Low bumper grilles, wing vents and 21" alloy wheels, however, hint at the ferocious power lurking beneath the surface of the lengthy bonnet.
The craftsmanship of the cabin is equally pleasing. Quilted leather seats and door panels, a 14-speaker sound system, carbon fibre inlays, and a choice of 10 different veneers (including the Piano Black, which is exclusive to the Mulsanne Speed) are just the start of the customisation options available to each buyer.
The air suspension system has four driving settings to ensure it's perfectly attuned to the road conditions, assuring you of the manufacturer's renowned “bed of air" ride quality even if you should encounter poor road surfaces.
The Mulsanne Speed's 6.75 litre, 537PS V8 petrol engine delivers maximum torque of 1100Nm at a mere 1750rpm.
Despite the considerable heft of the vehicle, these enormous reserves of power take the vehicle from a standing start to 62mph in 4.9 seconds, to 100mph in 11.1 seconds, and to a theoretical top speed of 190mph.
The eight-speed automatic transmission ensures optimum power delivery at any speed, and features an “S" mode which heightens the engine speed for quicker response.
As well as sheer pace, the Mulsanne Speed offers exceptional driving dynamics.
Three different driving modes – Bentley, Comfort, and Sport – adjust the air suspension, altering the nature of the steering feedback and the rigidity of the ride.
