Unveiled at Geneva International Motor Show 2015, the EXP 10 Speed Six Concept echoes Bentley’s classic sporting heritage, inspired by Woolf Barnato’s famous Blue Train Bentley Speed Six from 1930.
Yet the Speed Six Concept is no exercise in nostalgia. Showing off old-school British luxury, this baby sports car is sensuously sculpted as a truly modern vision, crafted with Bentley’s hallmark luxury qualities.
As a pinnacle luxury two-seat sports car, it sits comfortably with the Continental GT grand tourer family. “A bold vision for a brand with a bold future” announced CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer at the Speed Six Concept’s launch. We have to agree.
Confidence is key to the Speed Six Concept’s design. Under the strong direction of former Lamborghini designer Luc Donckerwolke, it pushes the Bentley’s visual language into exciting new territories.
We’ve experienced a sense of this new territory with Bentley Bentayga, yet the EXP 10 Speed Six is thrillingly distinct from that SUV – indeed, it’s an entirely different yet stunning showpiece of beautifully-sculpted materials, finished in Bentley’s stylish interpretation of British Racing Green.
With a slim front overhang, long sleek bonnet and muscular haunches, the Speed Six Concept looks every inch the high performance sports car, resplendent with Bentley’s signature 3D matrix grille. Inspired by modern aerospace design and technology, its shape is lean and powerful – and distinctively British.
At the Geneva International Motor Show, Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer announced that the Speed Six Concept “has the potential to be the new pinnacle luxury two-seat sports car”.
As onlookers at Geneva speculated, a 4.0-litre V8 driving the rear wheels would suit it very nicely – a drivetrain Bentley has tested in the Blancpain GT3 championship.
Although the Speed Six Concept is not officially confirmed as going on sale, Bentley engineering chief Rolf Frech noted how recent Bentley concepts have made it to production, highlighting the company’s commitment to innovation and excellence.
Inside, Speed Six Concept’s two-person cockpit lets the craftspeople at Crewe really go to town. Bentley’s traditional knurling is refreshed using steel and copper to create a beautiful texture, with soft, Poltrona Frau leather sports seats and straight-grain cherry wood door panels.
Fitted into the elegant centre console is an intuitive 12” touchscreen for infotainment and connectivity, seamlessly fusing modern technology and traditional craft, while the rear interior space is divided into two compartments for a custom-designed four-piece luggage set.
