BMW 118i Sport is available on BMW Select PCP.
A BMW 4 Series is a two-door 3 Series, and the M4 is a 4 Series that has had the full high-performance treatment from the revered M Division. So that means the BMW M4 Competition Convertible is a 450hp high-performance open-top with searing performance and sensational looks.
The M4 Competition Convertible starts from the best of design foundations, the smooth and elegant 4 Series Convertible featuring a folding hard top that can erect or stow in 20 seconds. What the M Competition package adds is a wider, lower and more eye-catching exterior. At the front there’s a deep front airdam with three large air intakes beneath a black double-bar BMW kidney grille that, like the rest of the exterior brightwork, is outlined in high-gloss Shadowline. Wheels are 19” M light alloy double-spoke designs in Ferric Grey, the front wings feature M side strakes and at the back four meaty tailpipes emerge from a rear diffuser. Inside is lavishly trimmed in Merino leather with M instrumentation, M specific lightweight sports seats and multifunction steering wheel.
Though not quite as fast as its Coupé stablemate, the M4 Competition Convertible still has enough firepower under the bonnet to scare supercars. From standstill to 62mph takes just 4.3 seconds, testament to the power and torque of the 450hp 3.0-litre twin-turbo six-cylinder engine developed by BMW’s M Division. This powers the rear wheels via a six-speed DCT transmission, with an Active M Differential to harness the power. Selectable drive modes are Comfort, Sport and Sport+, and the adaptive M suspension reacts within fractions of a second to adjust damper settings to suit driving inputs and road surfaces.
The M4 Competition Convertible is equipped with the class-leading iDrive system, which is based around an 8.8-inch touchscreen with built-in sat-nav. Standard features for this model include Real Time Traffic Information, part of the BMW Connected Drive services. Automatic dual-zone air conditioning, front seat heating, Bluetooth compatibility, wireless charging and Wi-Fi hotspot preparation are also included, while options include BMW Icon Adaptive LED headlights which can react individually to channel light around or away from other vehicles.
Like the M4 Competition Coupe, the Convertible features automatic emergency braking, BMW Emergency Call and front and rear parking sensors as well as airbag protection for front and rear. Other safety systems, such as BMW’s Driving Assistant package are available as an option. This includes Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Preventive Pedestrian Protection.
Gone are the days when choosing a convertible meant compromising on performance. BMW simply wouldn’t put its hallowed M badge on anything other than a thoroughbred performance car, and the M4 Competition Convertible is the proof. Devastatingly quick, it can switch from refined cruiser to a snarling high-performance car at the flick of a switch from Comfort to Sport+ mode. Its folding hard top offers full security when up, and the incomparable sensations of open-air motoring when stowed.
