The X4’s design is a mix of four-door coupé and five-door SUV, combining a sleek and sporty profile with the higher stance and driving position of a crossover. As with all the latest X4 models, the LED headlights are now slimmer, and are optionally available with BMW Laserlight technology. To distinguish the X4 M Competition, the familiar BMW kidney grille has black double grille bars within a single-piece gloss black frame. Black vertical air intakes on the front apron are angled in towards the base of the front air intake. At the rear, L-shaped LED lights are complemented by a full-width rear diffuser in black gloss with an anvil-shaped insert carrying the number plate. M Carbon mirror caps and 21” bi-colour V-spoke alloy wheels complete a head-turning visual package.
PERFORMANCE
You’d expect any BMW model with the M Competition badging to have searing acceleration, and the 510hp in-line 6-cylinder engine in the X4 M Competition won’t disappoint. The 0-62mph sprint is despatched in a mere 3.8 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 155mph (raised to 177mph with the optional M Driver’s Package). Equally impressive are chassis dynamics that permit you to make full use of the vehicle’s performance. The M-specific all-wheel drive xDrive technology is rear-biased and the 8-speed M Steptronic transmission allows full manual control with sequential paddle shifts. Adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers delivers supple comfort, roll-free cornering and precise feedback, while chassis settings can be adjusted at the touch of a button. High efficiency M Compound brakes provides impressive stopping power.
TECHNOLOGY
Settle into the M sports seats, with their electrically adjustable headrests and illuminated M logo, and your field of view is dominated by the 12.3-inch driver instrumentation with selectable M-specific digital graphics. The central Control Display touchscreen alongside it is also 12.3 inches and together with BMW Operating System 7 provides digital services such as Intelligent Personal Assistant, enabling you to use voice commands for a host of infotainment and climate settings. BMW Live Cockpit Professional and Connected Drive are standard, and other features include BMW Connected Music and Remote Software Upgrade.
SAFETY
Standard safety features include Active Guard, BMW Emergency Call and BMW Driving Assistant. The latter is a package of driver assistant systems including approach control warning and person warning with city braking, rear crossing traffic warning, lane change warning, lane departure warning and rear collision prevention. The optional Driving Assistant Professional adds Active Cruise Control with improved functionality in the city, intersection warning with additional city braking function, emergency lane assistant and the improved steering/lane guidance assistant.
