The four-door M8 Competition Gran Coupé has an extra 200mm in its wheelbase to give those rear-seat passengers some legroom, and some say it looks all the better for it. From the A-pillar forwards it’s identical to the Coupé, and the Gran Coupé's long, low and elegant lines resolve into a neat ducktail boot lid edged with a rear spoiler. The rear bumper and diffuser are also unique to this model. Its double bar kidney grille features an M8 emblem and it rides on 20" M forged light alloy wheels. Inside you’ll settle into sculpted M sport seats in full Merino leather with illuminated M8 badging. The instrument panel and headliner are crafted in a mix of leather and anthracite Alcantara. PERFORMANCE
Same 625HP 4.4-litre V8 as the M8 Competition Coupé, same performance. Zero to 62mph takes just 3.2 seconds and if you do a lot of early morning autobahn commutes you can opt to remove the 155mph limiter, giving a potential top speed of 190mph. Drive is sent to all four wheels via the BMW xDrive system; selectable drive modes include 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD, which sends all power to the rear for drift fanatics. Adaptive M Suspension and torque vectoring M Active rear differential help keep the M8 Gran Coupé pointing in the right direction.
TECHNOLOGY
The M8 Competition Gran Coupé is a flagship, so it’s lavishly equipped. The latest BMW Live Cockpit Professional system features bespoke M displays, including the instrument cluster and full colour head-up display. A 10.25” control touchscreen, the ‘Hey BMW’ Intelligent Personal Assistant (which learns your preferences), Harmon/Kardon audio speakers and adaptive LED headlights are all standard. Among the many options are laser lights that send a powerful beam of light over 500m ahead while actively shielding oncoming traffic from glare.
SAFETY
In the event of an accident the M8 Competition Gran Coupé's Emergency Call feature automatically establishes a direct link to the local emergency services and sends details of your vehicle location and severity of damage. Driving Assistant, another standard feature, includes approach control warning, rear crossing traffic warning, lane change warning, lane departure warning and rear collision prevention. Higher levels of intervention and autonomy come with the optional Driving Assistant Professional package.
