Jardine Motors’, Group HR Director Clare Martin, has received recognition for her ongoing commitment to championing changing the perception of the motoring industry and increasing diversity. Clare has been awarded 2018 winner in the HR category of AutoCar’s Great British Women.
Clare was voted for by colleagues within the business as well as the wider motoring industry and praised by CEO Neil Williamson for advocating more women into senior roles; and the figures are starting to stack up. Today 24% of management roles within the business are held by women and the aim is to reach 28% by the end of the year.
Achieving greater diversification within a company has been shown to lead to enhanced business performance and the difference is being felt across Jardine Motors Group. Teams with greater diversification perform better by on average 10% more. Clare, along with the senior management team at the business, have fostered a culture where talent is recognised and rewarded regardless of background, ethnicity or gender.
Commenting on the award, Clare Martin said: “The automotive industry has long had a reputation for being a ‘boys club’ but we are changing this within Jardine Motors Group. To address the gender pay gap is not about paying women more, but about having more women in senior positions. So I’m delighted to receive this award in recognition of the hard work and ongoing effort that myself, along with the great people who support me, are putting into helping shape a new culture where talent is recognised. We are also creating role models at all levels throughout the business. It doesn’t just have to be about women in senior positions; it’s about celebrating the successes and achievements of those talented individuals who everyday demonstrate and live our values.”
Now in its third year, AutoCar's Great British Women in the industry event aims to recognise talent and inspire others with the awards celebrating the amazing female talent that exists in the automotive industry today. It also provides a chance to highlight success stories and showcase the opportunities that exist for women within the industry and encourage more people to explore the varied roles available.
