When the original Jazz was released in 2002, it quickly became one of Honda’s biggest sellers due to its careful melding of practicality, comfort and driving enjoyment. The third-generation model looks set to build on this winning formula with increased loadspace, more economical engines and a completely revamped suspension likely to add to its broad-based appeal.
The new Jazz is slightly larger than its predecessor in terms of length and wheelbase. This has allowed it to extend its loadspace to 354 litres – a figure which can increase to 1314 litres when the flexible rear seats are folded forward. The new pliant suspension and effective insulation, meanwhile, ensure that the latest model is even more pleasant and quiet to drive or be driven in than the second-generation Jazz.
Power is provided either through a 1.3 litre, 101bhp i-VTEC “Earth Dreams” petrol engine linked to a six-speed manual or automatic CVT transmission. Equipped with this engine, the Jazz can achieve 0-62mph acceleration in 11.2 seconds, whilst returning combined fuel consumption of 61.4mpg and CO2 output of just 106g/km. The latter figure means an annual Vehicle Excise Duty levy of just £20, and an exemption for the first year of ownership. A 1.5 litre petrol-electric hybrid motor with 133bhp will also become available towards the end of 2015.
Occupants will have access to a varied selection of advanced technological features with all specifications of the new Jazz. The entry-level edition offers a 5” LCD multi-information display, as well as Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, rain-sensing window wipers and LED daytime running lights. Rach of the higher trim levels give buyers a 7” touchscreen with a HondaConnect infotainment system compatible with Bluetooth, MirrorLink, Wi-Fi, HDMI and USB. Further apps can be installed through the purpose-built Honda App centre, giving owners access to a range of online functions. Garmin satellite navigation is also available as an extra option.
The third-generation Jazz is set to be released in the coming weeks, and the Jardine Honda dealerships in Bracknell, Newbury and Reading willbe among the first of the manufacturer’s partners to receive the newmodel.
