NEW JAGUAR F-TYPE
On its launch in 2013, the F-TYPE was described as the spiritual successor to the 1961 E-type, a car so iconic that even Enzo Ferrari was moved to describe it as ‘the most beautiful car in the world’. In between E and F there had been other two-door sporting Jaguars such as the XJ-S and XK, but these were luxury grand tourers, whereas the F-TYPE was designed from the start as an uncompromising sports car. Time moves on, and now the new 2020 F-TYPE features a design refresh, technology update and revised powertrain line-up.
The headline news for the 2020 F-TYPE range is that Jaguar no longer offers a supercharged V6 3.0 engine. Instead, there’s now an additional V8 model. The entry model remains the four-cylinder 2.0-litre Ingenium engine, which delivers 300PS and maximum torque of 400Nm. This drives the rear wheels via an eight-speed transmission, and the 0-62mph benchmark takes 5.7 seconds. Next up, and replacing the former 3.0 V6, comes a supercharged 5.0 litre V8 that can be chosen either with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
The F-TYPE has always been an uncompromising two-seater sports car – Jaguar calls it a ‘1+1’ – with power and agility at the heart of its appeal. That much, thankfully, is unchanged. Instead the refreshed design, upgraded 2020s infotainment system and revised drivetrain line-up gives it a fresh lease of life and makes day to day ownership even more enjoyable.
