For the second consecutive year, the Jaguar XE has won the Compact Executive Car of the Year Auto Express Award. Jaguar has certainly disrupted the normal sequence of events at Auto Express with the XE, the first non-German car to win the award in over a decade.
Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover UK, Jeremy Hicks, said: ‘To win the Compact Executive Car of the Year for a second year in a row just proves what a special car the XE is. Since it last won, we’ve seen brand new rival models from our competitors, but the XE’s mix of desirable styling, incredibly low running costs and engaging handling has ensured it has come out on top again. It’s really disrupted the premium executive class, not only for awards wins but also for sales both in the UK and across the world.’
British-built high-tech Ingenium engines are used in the XE, and when combined with the marque’s Lightweight Aluminium Architecture, make this innovative Jaguar the most efficient in its class after hybrids. Fuel economy can reach as high as 75mpg and CO2 emissions can be as low as 99g/km, adding to its allure for business users.
Editor-in-Chief of Auto Express, Steve Fowler, said: ‘There’s no doubting the Compact Executive award is one of the most hotly contested, but the Jaguar XE just stacks up every possible way you look at it. It’s stylish and luxurious, but it’s also a joy to drive and makes a great deal of sense to fleet buyers, too. The XE disrupted a run of more than a decade of continuous German wins in this category, and it’s going to take something very special to topple it.’
Since the XE was launched, Jaguar’s share of the corporate market has doubled – and that’s thanks to its disruption of the premium executive market, unsettling the established order. Autocar, Britain’s oldest motoring magazine, also awarded the XE with the Game Changer award for setting new standards, which speaks for itself.
Compact Executive Car of the Year was not Jaguar’s only accolade at the Auto Express Awards, with the pioneering F-PACE winning not only Compact SUV of the Year but also the Auto Express Car of the Year 2016.
Designer of both award-winning Jaguars, Ian Callum, Design Director, said: ‘What an incredible evening for us; we’ve got two cars competing in the most highly sought-after categories and not only have we won them both, but F-PACE is Car of the Year, too. As ever, I’m amazed by, and proud of, what the Jaguar team is capable of.’
