Over four years ago at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Jaguar C-X16 was revealed; a two-seater sports car with archetypal muscular Jaguar design that would pave the way for the Jaguar F-TYPE, and also exhibit the brand’s design and technological direction.
Driven by a prototype, supercharged, all-alloy 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, the concept C-X16 can go from a standstill to 62mph in 4.4 seconds before going on to reach 186mph. Partnered with an electric motor, a ‘Push to Pass’ feature allows for additional bursts of acceleration, with the driver able to boost the car’s power by 70kW for up to 10 seconds – and with no lag, just instant speed.
Designed for performance, the lightweight aluminium Jaguar concept drives its rear wheels through an eight-speed transmission. With a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a prototype hybrid powertrain boasting 380PS and 332lb ft of torque, the C-X16 may lead us to the next generation of enhanced, efficient, powerful, internal combustion engines from Jaguar.
On the inside, witness the dramatic red interior trimmed in the finest, most luxurious materials: Alcantara micro-suede, anodized machined aluminium, carbon-fibre and dark chrome. The joystick-style gear lever adds to the striking appearance, as well as the red starter button and bank of aluminium, carbon fibre and chrome switches. The driver’s seat envelopes the steering wheel and surrounding area, recreating an F1 cockpit feel.
Ian Callum, Jaguar Design Director commented, saying ‘A Jaguar sports car should have clear visual movement in its design, and the C-X16 is the perfect demonstration of that goal. Each of its lines begins with a sense of purpose, and ends with a sense of clarity. It’s that approach that has given the C-X16 its purposeful stance. Look at the C-X16 and you want to drive it – and that’s just how a Jaguar sports car should make you feel’.
Drawing from C-X16 design cues and performance, F-TYPE was born. With its lightweight aluminium construction, long, sweeping bonnet, muscular stance and aggressively angled rear, the British brand has a sexy high performance sports car in its range – and it’s very similar to the C-X16 concept. With perfect proportions, precise handling, agility and nimble cornering, F-TYPE is the epitome of style and innovation.
The C-X16 may be just a concept, but it has led to the creation of a real-life animal. To arrange a test drive in the Jaguar F-TYPE, contact Lancaster Jaguar. Be it the Coupé or the Convertible, we have a model to suit both your lifestyle and driving style.
