Only 200 editions of the special Aventador LP 720-4 – 100 coupés and 100 roadsters - were released in 2013 to celebrate a half-century of Automobili Lamborghini. A specially recalibrated version of the manufacturer’s renowned V12 engine, along with improved aerodynamics and ventilation, ensured even better performance than the LP 700-4 model on which it is based. A unique Giallo Maggio paint scheme and special detailing add to the significance of this limited-edition collector’s model.

Although it is naturally similar to the standard Aventador LP 700-4 in shape, a number of small details make all the difference with the 50 Anniversario. The most obvious is the exclusive Giallo Maggio, or “May Yellow” paintwork, which includes a layer of transparent and reflective particles that give it a distinctive “sparkling” look in the sunlight. And that is not the only change made by Lamborghini’s engineers – the air intakes, front splitter and diffuser have all been enlarged to increase ventilation to the engine and reduce the vehicle’s drag coefficient even further.
The cabin, meanwhile, boasts the typical Lamborghini luxury. Black (“Nero Ade”) semi-aniline leather upholstery forms an elegant contrast with the diamond-stitched seats in Terra Emilia brown or Giallo Quercus yellow. Gull-wing doors, as well as emphasising the model’s rarefied charm, make entering and exiting easier and more dignified than one might expect from such a low-bodied hypercar.
Dual-hydraulic circuit brakes guarantee excellent stopping distances, whilst control in all conditions is assured by the Haldex four-wheel drive, anti-lock brakes and a powerful – yet not intrusive – Electronic Brakeforce Distribution system. In the event of an impact, the driver and passenger are shielded from harm by front, side, thorax and knee airbags.
The 6.5 litre V12 engine provides an even more awe-inspiring amount of power and torque than the powertrain available on the LP 700-4. Careful improvements made to the vehicle’s electronics have increased power by 19bhp to a total of 710bhp. This gives it a 0-62mph acceleration time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 217mph, while the increased aerodynamic efficiency has a beneficial effect on handling. An extremely fast-shifting seven-speed ISR transmission supplies a vast, constant surge of power as you increase your pace. The flexible Drive Select system, meanwhile, allows you to adjust throttle response to suit the demands of the road or the racetrack.
