Land Rover managed to take the top three spots in this year’s Caravan Club awards held at the RAC club in London. The Discovery HSE Luxury was voted the overall winner and the took first prize in the all-wheel-drive category for vehicles of more than 1800kg and in the category for vehicles priced in excess of £50,000.
The judges heaped praise on the car, giving it kudos for its “rock solid stability, master-class hill start, and its electric parking brake, which holds really well and releases automatically when pulling away”.
There were 39 vehicles up for judging by Caravan Club members and journalists. The cars were judged on their ability to accelerate, brake and cope with hill starts whist towing. So why did the Land Rover Discovery do so well? Simply, the Discovery has a number of special technologies designed to make towing a breeze, such as Trailer Stability Assist, which detects when you’re towing and monitors braking and other factors when travelling above 37mph. There’s also Towing Assist with Surround Camera System, which predicts a path for the vehicle when in reverse and Transparent Trailer giving enhanced visibility. For those using their trailers to transport livestock, Cargo Sense gives the driver updates on the temperature and movement of the trailer so livestock can be kept safe and calm.
Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover UK, Jeremy Hicks comments, “2015 is proving to be another fantastic year for Discovery. It has been at the top of the judge’s lists of capable towing vehicles consistently for the last nine years. Along with our recent research concept announcements, we are demonstrating our strong ability to develop ground breaking technologies that put the needs of our customers first. Innovation and capability are cornerstones of our DNA and Discovery continues to lead the way in these areas.”
