DESIGN The Eletre’s cab-forward form takes the design language of the brand’s Evija electric hypercar and translates it into a sleek, distinctive five-seat SUV. Lotus describes its design ethos as ‘carved by air’, underlined by the low drag coefficient of just 0.26. The active front grille features seven individual apertures, each one featuring triangular petals that can open and close on demand to provide cooling airflow. At the rear, a split floating roof spoiler directs air downwards where it meets a deployable active spoiler on the tailgate. Inside, there’s ample space for five, though a four-seat layout is an option.
PERFORMANCE There are three models in the line-up: Eletre, Eletre S and Eletre R. All are powered by twin electric motors and an 800-volt, 112kWh Lithium-ion battery pack. This can be charged at up to 350kW, potentially boosting the battery from 10-80 per cent in as little as 20 minutes. The powertrain of the Eletre and Eletre S develops 603hp and 710Nm, delivering a 0-62mph time of 4.5 seconds and a maximum range of 373 miles. The performance-focused Eletre R boasts 905hp and 985Nm, and covers the benchmark sprint in just 2.95 seconds, with a slightly lower range of up to 304 miles. As you’d expect of a vehicle carrying the Lotus badge, handling and agility are class leading. Dual-chamber air springs allow independent control of ride height and stiffness. The electronically controlled damping system continuously measures the loads coming into the suspension and adapts the damping rate up to 500 times per second. Drivers can tailor the Eletre’s dynamics by selecting one of the different Drive Modes, including Tour, Range, Off-Road, Sport, and Individual; the Eletre R also offers Track Mode. Active rear wheel steering and Intelligent Active Roll Control are included in the Lotus Dynamic Handling pack, which is standard on the Eletre R and optional on the other models.
TECHNOLOGY Lotus Hyper OS – an all-new operating system – provides seamless interactive infotainment, including a voice-controlled virtual assistant. A slimline 15.1-inch OLED touchscreen includes EV Routing, EV Range Assistant and Predictive Routing navigation. Both the front seat passenger and rear passengers have their own HD touchscreen for media playback, climate settings, lighting, and seat adjustments. There’s a choice of two audio systems: KEF Premium is a 1,380-watt, 15-speaker system while KEF Reference is a 2,160-watt 23-speaker system with 3D surround sound. Matrix LED headlights, adaptive cruise control, visual park assist, four-zone climate control, 12-way electric-adjust front seats, and head-up display are standard. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and a wireless device charger are also included. Connectivity is 5G capable, while over-the-air software updates ensure the Eletre’s Digital Cockpit continuously improves over time.
SAFETY All models come with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems, including intelligent adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation support, traffic sign information, front and rear cross traffic alert, door open warning, lane change assist, lane departure warning and emergency rescue call (E-Call). The Eletre is also future proofed for Level 4 autonomous driving capability where driving laws permit.
