Maserati is bringing the dominant Levante into its impressive roster of performance cars. The Italian brand’s first SUV will make its debut in its production form at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016.
Maserati CEO Harald Wester has said that the Levante represents the biggest business opportunity ever for Maserati, but strongly opposed rumours that it was the most important Maserati ever made.
Wester confirmed that building of customer models will start in February 2016 and be delivered shortly after. He also confirmed that the Levante will be “100 percent Maserati.”
Despite declining to comment on exactly how the model will look, Wester revealed that the Levante will be significantly different to the 2011 concept. Plug-in hybrids will have a strong presence in the line-up, following the recent trend of many luxury brands to add electric power to their vehicles.
A new Maserati two-seater sports car is also in the pipeline, and is due to go on sale in 2017. The concept was revealed at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and is designed to sit alongside the existing Gran Turismo and Gran Cabrio models.
