Released in 2014 to commemorate a century since the Maserati brothers of Bologna went into business, the GranTurismo MC Centennial Edition is a worthy tribute to the company’s hundred years of producing swift and spirited luxury cars.

A variety of exclusive exterior and interior detailing, along with the same ferocious V8 petrol engine first seen on the GranTurismo S, ensures that the MC Centennial is a very special sportscar indeed.

The new Maserati GranTurismo can be taken for a test drive today at Lancaster Maserati in Colchester.

GranTurismo Range

48-52 front/rear weight distribution and crisp, responsive steering ensure that the GranTurismo MC Centennial provides an agile yet stable platform for the committed driver.

High-performance Brembo brakes and the manufacturer's own electronic stability programme, which redistributes torque and depresses the brakes in the event of a skid, offer even greater active safety.

Six dual-stage airbags shield the occupants should an impact occur.

The pronounced shoulders, narrow headlights and gaping front grille of the MC Centennial, complete with the famous trident crest mean that it could not be mistaken for anything else but a GranTurismo. Nevertheless, three vibrant new paint schemes – “Rosso Magma", “Grigio Petra" and “Blu Inchiostro" – emphasise the special nature of the car to admiring onlookers.

Particularly vigilant observers may also notice the distinctive black carbon fibre detailing of the rear spoiler, door handles and mirror casings, as well as the special Maserati Centennial decorated hubcaps.

An equally elegant and unique cabin boasts black Polotrona Frau leather seats and upholstery, offset with red and white stitching and carbon fibre inserts on the dashboards and seat surrounds.

The Maserati Centennial logo once again takes pride of place on the kick plate.

Dual-zone climate control and notably expansive legroom, meanwhile, ensure maximum comfort for the driver and three passengers.

Endowed with Maserati's trademark “wet sump" technology, the MC Centennial's 4.7 litre V8 engine emits a distinctive tone that is confident and sonorous without being intrusive.

Its refinement, however, does not denote any lack of vigour; with 454hp and maximum torque of 520Nm, the vehicle reaches 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds, and can achieve a top speed of 188mph.

The precise and sophisticated six-speed ZF automatic transmission, meanwhile, guarantees that there will always be an eager response when you press the accelerator – regardless of speed.

Three driving modes – Normal Automatic, Sport Manual, and Race Manual – enable you to adjust throttle response and handling to your present situation.
