Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet 2021

DESIGN

Long, sweeping lines from the new diamond grille and flatter LED headlights through to the tail create a timeless design that is understated, sporty and confident. The Cabriolet’s roof is made from multi-layer insulated fabric, but you’ll scarcely notice the difference between this and a metal roof when it’s erected, plus it takes up a lot less space when stowed. The E-Class Cabriolet can also be fitted with the Aircap electric draught-stop system and Airscarf neck-level heating in the seats for comfortable open-top cruising all year round. Inside, there’s a clever mix of traditional craft with modern tech, such as a newly designed steering wheel, for a minimalist and dynamic driving feel. This contributes to an overall style of sporty, contemporary luxury. There’s a host of new trim options, such as open-pore grey ash wood and aluminium with light carbon-fibre gain, to enhance the luxury feel alongside high quality materials.

TECHNOLOGY

The all-new intelligent steering wheel offers touch controls to operate the MBUX system across two 12.3” screens – the left hosting driver information and the right a touchscreen handling infotainment. With the MBUX Interior Assistant, you can control different functions with a simple hand gesture, or activate the voice assistant by saying “Hey Mercedes”. Also making life easier is the MBUX Augmented Reality Navigation displayed via the digital cockpit. Energising comfort control uses sound, lighting and seat massage modes to improve your wellbeing so you can feel relaxed on long journeys. As well as this, the E-Class Cabriolet comes as standard with 64-colour ambient lighting and the seat comfort package provides endless adjustment opportunities so you can create your perfect driving set-up.

SAFETY

As it’s a Mercedes, the E-Class Cabriolet benefits from all the latest driver aids and support systems. All models feature LED High Performance headlamps with a range of functions and Multibeam LED headlamps are an optional extra. The new rear lights also feature LED technology. Active Brake Assist scans the road ahead and warns of potential hazards, and can even intervene to apply brakes autonomously. Another safety option is Attention Assist, which monitors the driver for signs of tiredness and warns when it’s time to take a break. Urban Guard also protects the car against crime and, if its activated, you’ll be notified by the Mercedes me app.

FEATURES

Mercedes offers a choice of two and four-wheel drive, and diesel and petrol engines, though not all permutations of the two. Some powertrains also feature mild hybrid technology for added power and efficiency. The diesel range includes the impressive E 220 d, powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine which delivers an impressive 56.5mpg with 0-62mph in 7.4 seconds. Alternatively, there’s the E 300 d, featuring mild hybrid technology for a temporary electric-powered EQ Boost of up to 20hp, and the 3.0-litre E 400 d – both of which come with four-wheel drive. Move to the petrol models and there’s the E 300, which is a 2.0-litre turbo developing 242bhp. There’s also the 3.0-litre turbo V6 E 450 producing 362hp with an additional EQ Boost of 22hp, and comes with four-wheel drive. All powertrains use a nine-speed automatic gearbox and are fitted with adaptive suspension as standard. If you opt for the sport E 53 AMG model, you’ll receive 435hp, a top speed of 155 mph and a 0-62mph speed of 4.4 seconds – with an added electric boost of 22bhp.
