MERCEDES-AMG SL

DESIGN

The Mercedes-AMG SL holds onto the roadster’s classic shape but takes on a more aggressive front end with a wide AMG grille and triangular digital headlights. The rear end is accompanied by a diffuser and four large tailpipes, giving it an equally powerful look. Above, the electric soft top weighs 21kg less than its predecessor and takes only 15 seconds to open or close at speeds of up to 37mph. Inside, the SL combines high levels of luxury and comfort with AMG characteristics. The three-layer design of the soft top means noise in the cabin is kept to a minimum, whilst the new 2+2 seat setup offers space for little ones in the back. But because this is an AMG model, the driver enjoys a low seating position with hugging AMG sports seats in the front. To spec your new SL to your exact taste, you can choose from 12 paint colours, three roof colourways, a choice of wheel designs, and multiple exterior design packages.

TECHNOLOGY

Mercedes has brought the SL into the modern era by fitting it with state-of-the-art technology. The cockpit is built around the driver with an 11.9” central display and 12.3” driver’s display, both of which can be adjusted to aid visibility with the top down. The latest generation MBUX infotainment system also offers personalised suggestions as it gets to know your driving style, and AMG Track Pace is standard on the SL 63. To further enhance your experience, warm air blows out of the front headrests onto your neck so you can enjoy the freedom of a convertible even when it’s cold outside.

SAFETY

The Mercedes-AMG SL has been put through extensive tests to ensure it meets the same strict safety standards as the rest of the AMG range. With the help of numerous sensors and cameras, the SL also features a range of driver assistance systems similar to those found in the Mercedes C-Class and S-Class. Giving you extra peace of mind whilst driving, the systems are designed to assist with speed adaptation, distance control, steering and lane changes.

FEATURES

It’s clear to see the AMG influence in the new SL, as the 4.0-litre V8 biturbo unleashes unrestrained power and a new lightweight chassis makes for impressive handling. Available in two outputs, the most powerful model is the SL 63 4MATIC+ which develops 585hp and 800Nm of torque to go from 0-62mph in just 3.6 seconds, with a limited top speed of 195mph. Meanwhile, the SL 55 4MATIC+ produces 476hp with 700Nm of torque. It takes 3.9 seconds to reach 62mph from a standstill and has a top speed of 183mph. For the first time the SL benefits from all-wheel drive, as well as AMG Active Ride Control suspension, rear-axle steering, and optional ceramic composite brakes. The active rear spoiler also responds to your driving style to increase downforce at higher speeds. Regardless of whether you have the roof up or down, the car’s character, performance and agility remain unchanged, so you can enjoy the thrill of the SL whatever the weather.
