OUR ELECTRIC RANGE EXPLAINED

PHEV

Plug-in Hybrid

Mercedes-Benz boasts an extensive range of PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid) cars now available. Offering you the best of both worlds, you can drive all-electric in the city or use the economical combustion engine for longer trips.

With a combination of combustion engine and electric motor, a Plug-in Hybrid offers you flexibility and a dynamic control of how you want to drive and when. To use your electric drive, you simply plug your car into a source of electricity to charge, but if you run out of range you can easily switch to the combustion engine and recharge when it's next convenient for you. Another added benefit of PHEV is the responsiveness - the electric motor boosts the combustion engine when you accelerate for a more refined and instant drive.

EQ

All-Electric

EQ is our growing range of all-electric cars. Zero local emissions, an almost silent drive and impressive responsiveness creates an all-new driving experience for Mercedes-Benz.

Unlike petrol or diesel-powered engines, fully electric cars use electric motors powered by the electricity in their battery so you can drive CO2-free. The battery can then be re-charged in a number of different, convenient ways. To drive a full electric Mercedes-Benz is to drive with your finger on the pulse. The surge of pleasure you feel when your foot touches the pedal and the instant reaction of a car that thinks like a driver. The smoothness of the ride. It's the same luxury, safety and quality you expect from a Mercedes, with all the advantages of electric.

All-electric vehicles have zero local exhaust emissions, meaning that they do not emit any NOx emissions or carbon dioxide. In addition, electric cars are virtually silent in operation, significantly reducing noise pollution on busy roads and in city centres. You can drive safe in the knowledge that you are doing your part to improve your impact on the environment.

Mercedes Optimised Navigation ensures you will never run out of charge by considering your electric car's range and energy consumption, your route's upcoming topography and nearest charging stations for optimal routing - active as soon as you set a destination. All EQ models have 10 years' Optimised Navigation as standard, putting a stop to range anxiety.

Electric vehicles intrinsically have fewer components, making it much simpler and more economical to maintain over its lifetime than a combustion engine car. There is no oil to change, no filters, water pump or cambelt to replace and the use of regenerative braking means that friction brake discs and pads will require fewer changes.

GOING THE DISTANCE

Electric is a whole new way of driving, and very different to combustion engine driving. There's many things you can do to maximise the range you get from your vehicle, and a wealth of technology from Mercedes-EQ to make your journeys even more efficient.

Energy Recovery

Smart ideas - like recuperating energy when braking to increase range - are built-in to your electric Mercedes-Benz. By recovering kinetic energy from the wheel axles and converting it to an electric charge, you can help to recharge the battery on the go. Your electric Mercedes-Benz can recuperate up to 30% more energy through coasting or braking, which extends its range considerably.

Driving Style

You can greatly improve the range of your Electric Vehicle by adapting certain elements of your driving style. Driving smoothly with light acceleration, allowing brake regeneration to slow the car down and using the Eco driving modes can all help your battery perform at maximum efficiency.

Environment

Just like combustion fuel consumption, the 'real world' range of an EV is impacted by a variety of external factors including outside temperature, types of road, weather and systems like air conditioning. If your electric Mercedes is displaying full battery, but your range is not as expected, consider the environmental factors currently at play.

Smart Batteries, Smooth Journey

Mercedes-Benz has years of extensive expertise in high voltage battery technology and pioneering technologies. Mercedes batteries use lithium-ion technology, the most advanced and reliable battery for daily use in electric cars.

CHARGING PLUG-IN HYBRID AND ELECTRIC CARS ON THE MOVE

Quick and easy charging while out and about with Mercedes me Charge

CHARGING YOUR MERCEDES-EQ

Charging your EQ or Plug-in Hybrid is easier than you think! The average car spends 80% of its life parked at home, so during this time your electric vehicle can be doing something useful - charging. With an ever-expanding international network of public charging stations, you are never going to be short of somewhere to fill your battery... but for shorter journeys (95% of car journeys in the UK are under 25 miles) most will be covered by charging at home with a wall box. And with electricity around two-thirds cheaper than petrol or diesel, all your journeys, short or long, are going to be significantly cheaper than you're used to. Take a look at the different types of charging:

HOME CHARGING

A Home Charger will usually run at around 7.2 kWh (where a typical 3-pin plug charger will slow charge at around 2.3 kWh), although this can vary.  This is enough for most EV owners and handy for charging the battery overnight.  Before investing in a Home Charger, it's important to research the best energy providers (ZOOM EV can help you do this).

FAST CHARGING

Fast Chargers are the most commonly used, with fast charging rates ranging from 7 kWh to 22 kWh. Our EV and Plug-in Hybrid vehicles are supplied with a Public Charging Cable which you will need to use with the slow and fast public charging points around the UK. Many charging points around the country are currently free to use, so it always pays to do a little research before a longer journey.

RAPID CHARGING

Our Mercedes-EQ range can be rapidly charged (in as little as 30 minutes) at many Rapid Charge points across the UK, operating between 50 kWh to 270 kWh dependant on model. Mercedes me Charge gives you access to an extensive network of public charging stations across the country, simply register today. For rapid charging you will require a special Combined Charging System (CCS) connector.
