The Mercedes-Benz GLC has been awarded the title of ‘Most Popular Compact Premium Car’ at the Honest John Awards.
The annual awards, which were held in London for the sixth year this month, select winners according to the number of page views the car reviews receive on the Honest John website.
The website was created 15 years ago to help car consumers with advice on buying, selling and running cars and receives two million visits every month.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a surprise winner because the car’s review only went live on the website midway through 2015. Yet it racked up more page views than its competitors, even in a shorter space of time. In fact, the GLC was more popular than any other compact premium car, saloon or otherwise.
Presenting the award, Honest John’s editor Dan Harrison commented: “Mercedes-Benz may have been a latecomer to the crossover party, but the GLC proves that arriving fashionably late can have its benefits. As an even more practical and family-friendly alternative to the C-Class, the stylish GLC has gained plenty of admirers - winning the Most Popular Compact Premium Car award in the process.”
The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a compact hatchback SUV with a design loosely based on the C-Class and has a 5-star safety rating.
The GLC is on sale now, with prices starting from £34,950 for the GLC 220 d SE. The recently announced Mercedes-AMG GLC 43, which features a 3.0-litre V6 biturbo petrol engine, joins the line-up at the end of 2016.
