The tenth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-class is on sale now and is available in two trim levels – SE and AMG. There is also a choice of four and six-cylinder diesel engines.
The E220d SE comes with standard features that include 17-inch wheels and LED head and tail lights. Inside, heated front seats sport a leather trim. Dual-zone climate control, satellite navigation, front and rear-parking sensors and a reversing camera are also installed. Infotainment functionality is accessed through an 8.4-inch high-resolution display.
AMG trims feature 19-inch wheels and drilled front brake discs, as well as bumpers and side skirts that differ from that of the SE. Inside, the AMG grades feature partial-leather sports seats and an AMG steering wheel.
There are currently two engine choices. The E220d features a 2.0-litre single-turbo engine that is one of the marque’s new OM645 diesel units. This produces as much as 192bhp and 400Nm of torque, which enables 0-60mph in approximately 7.5 seconds. The E220d is capable of 72mpg and produces CO2 emissions as low as 102g/km.
The other option is a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that delivers 255bhp and 620Nm of torque, allowing the car to go from 0-60mph in a little under six seconds.
There are plenty of optional extras available. A Premium pack provides front seats that feature a memory function, a panoramic glass roof and keyless start. In addition to this, Premium Plus offers Mercedes’ intelligent LED lighting system, which uses 84 LED bulbs, producing high-intensity illumination that doesn’t dazzle fellow road users. A Burmester surround-sound system is part of this pack too.
